Residents Urged to Increase Fire Alerts During Ramadan and Idul Fitri

The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) urges residents to increase their vigilance in efforts to prevent fires during the holy month of Ramadan and Idul Fitri.

Residents are also urged to use electrical equipment according to SNI standards

Jakarta Gulkarmat Agency Head, Satriadi Gunawan stated the number of fire cases in Jakarta during Ramadan had increased compared to the previous day.

"This is due to the high activity of residents in meeting family needs and economic activities which are one of the triggers for the increase in fire cases. Among them, forgetting to turn off the stove when preparing dishes for sahur (predawn meal)," he expressed, Thursday (3/30).

According to him, the fire cases in Jakarta were also triggered by the increasing use of electric current to fulfill stocks of goods at business premises such as factories, kiosks, etc.

"As well as the hot weather that had occurred a few days ago also affected the increase in fire cases in Jakarta," he expressed.

Until now, he asserted, firefighters continue to make efforts to prevent fires in the community.

"We routinely hold socialization through loudspeakers at mosques and musala (prayer rooms) to remind residents. Nearly 39,000 locations have held socialization to prevent fires," he asserted.

According to him, the messages conveyed included residents being asked to check electrical equipment and hoses for gas cylinders at home.

"Residents are also urged to use electrical equipment according to SNI standards and use according to the provisions to anticipate electrical short circuits," he continued.

He also urged them not to forget to unplug the installed electrical equipment and to be diligent in checking the gas stove, especially when leaving the house to perform the Tarawih prayers.

"This warning is also conveyed to residents who want to take a homecoming. Make sure the house left behind is safe from fire incidents and leave the house to neighbors who don't come home during Idul Fitri," he uttered.

As for the information, based on the latest data, from March 23 to 28, there have been 33 cases of fires that occurred in five areas of the city, consisting of six cases each in Central Jakarta and West Jakarta, seven cases in North Jakarta, 10 cases in South Jakarta, and four cases in East Jakarta.
